John, a resident of New York Mills, MN, enjoys his time with his wife and children. Together, they spend time hunting and fishing as well as owning and operating the family farm which includes an 8000 square foot greenhouse that opens to the public each spring.

The National Fish Decoy Association is thankful for his involvement as a board member for the organization. John is also a member of the E.O.T. County Darkhouse & Anglers Association.

John has carved and painted wildlife for many years. He enjoys carving fish decoys for both decorative and using in the dark house. In 2000, he started participating in competitive carving. He has won many awards at the "Bob Johnson Invitational" and the "John Jensen Nationals". His achievements include earning two 2nd place awards and two 4th place awards in the National Fish Decoy Association's World Point Series. He was awarded 3rd place as Collectable Decoy Carver of the Year and a 2nd place as Workable Decoy Carver of the Year at the Park Rapids Show.

Aside from the carving, John has also  just recently completed a collection of the "best clean outdoor jokes you've ever heard" in which he put his drawings and illustrations to. The title of his book is JOE SPORTSMAN. Every page includes an outdoor experience (some remind you of your own) that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and make you chuckle out loud.
